India's stand-in skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has conceded that Australia "played better" in the thrilling ODI thriller in Mackay on Sunday, adding that the team will look to flip a switch and get back to their best for the next game.
The format was kind to India in Sunday's match, with chances to win the match in both the air (through disciplined bowling and fielding) and on the grasses of Mackay (where run-scoring was challenging). India failed to capitalize on either, and while the bowlers were able to dismiss away the Australian top order, a resilient Phoebe Litchfield scored a crucial 88 to set the hosts on their way to a comfortable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Kaur stated after the match that India lacked momentum, falling short by 20-30 runs, and highlighted the side missed key fielding chances.
"I think we fell short by 20-30 runs, and we couldn't catch well," said Kaur. "We gave away 10-15 runs extra, and they played better than us. just couldn't pull ourselves back into the game.
"Every time when you don't do well, there are lots of things that you have to do . And we'll look to switch and try to do well in the next game," she said, hoping that the team can recover quickly and rally for a consolation victory next time.
The third and final ODI will be played on Wednesday, with India looking to steal a win back and restore pride after a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign.
