NDA Govt On Track To Wipe Out Naxalism By 2026, Says Minister

The government is working tirelessly to eradicate Naxalism from the country by 2026, said Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai on Tuesday. This statement was made in response to a question about whether the government is aware that Naxalism thrives in areas with poor implementation of welfare policies and that the root cause of Naxalism is poverty, inequality, and neglect of tribals, according to press reports.

Rai insisted that the government is making steady progress in combating Naxalism across the country. He highlighted that in 2015, there were a total of 84 Naxalite-affected districts in India, but due to the relentless efforts of the government, it has been contained to only 50 districts. Moreover, significant achievements have been garnered in the domain of development, with approximately 82% of the targeted population covered by welfare policies, and safe roads having been established in many areas.

"The effects of these initiatives are showing results. There is a constant decrease in the number of Naxal-related incidents and casualties almost every year," he said, adding that the government is committed to pursuing this policy of establishing dominance through security and development.

The minister further stated that the government is unwavering in its commitment to restoring peace and prosperity to these regions and that PM Modi's leadership has been instrumental in this regard.

"It is our aim to wipe out Naxalism by 2026. Under the leadership of the PM, we will achieve this target," he said.
