Yogesh Kathuniya Eyes Paralympic Glory at World Para Athletics Championships

New Delhi hosts the World Para Athletics Championships starting tomorrow, and among the many world-class para-athletes competing is India's Yogesh Kathuniya. Currently ranked #3 in the world in the discus throw event, Yogesh is hoping to break his own world record in front of his home crowd.

It's been a meteoric rise for the Hyderabad-based athlete, who only took up parasports three years ago. But his prowess in the discus pit has seen him hit great heights in record time. Yogesh lost his left arm in a bike accident six years ago, and his sporting career began after he joined the Paralympic Committee of India's flagship program, 'Mission 2024'.

Yogesh will be eyeing gold at the biggest stage possible as he hopes to better his own world record of 43.7 meters in the men's F56 event. Speaking to the media, the gritty 26-year-old said, "It is a huge opportunity for me to compete in front of the home crowd. I have prepared really well, and I am hoping to better my own world record."

His ambitious goal has the backing of his coach and family, who have supported him throughout his journey. They moved to the national capital from Hyderabad temporarily to provide him with a familiar environment. His father, Rajkishore, is his biggest supporter and attends every competition to cheer him on. He echoed his son's sentiments, saying, "Yogesh has prepared very well, and I am confident he will break his world record and bring home the gold."

Only time will tell if Yogesh can achieve a new personal best in his favorite event. The future certainly looks bright for this young Paralympic athlete as he hopes to make his nation, family, and fans proud.
