Indian football continues to take steps to monetize its commercial rights, with the appointment of KPMG India Services LLP, pursuant to an RFQ process chaired by Justice L. Nageswara Rao.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has appointed auditing and consulting firm KPMG India Services LLP to manage the monetisation of its commercial rights, according to a statement issued by the company. KPMG India won the bid under an open, transparent, and competitive request for quotation (RFQ) process chaired by Justice L. Nageswara Rao, former chief justice of the Supreme Court of India.
KPMG India will assist the AIFF in determining the fair value of its commercial rights and exploring opportunities to maximize these rights in the near future. The consulting company will also assist the AIFF in securing strategic partnerships and strengthening the overall positioning of Indian football.
"We are delighted to announce KPMG India as our partner to advise us on our commercialisation strategy. We received some excellent proposals as part of our RFQ process, but KPMG India stood out with their depth of knowledge about the sport, their understanding of the challenges we face, and their extensive portfolio of work in the area of commercialisation of sports rights," said AIFF president Praful Patel.
Following a seven-year hiatus, the Indian Super League (ISL) may make its highly anticipated return in December this year. The ISL, owned by Reliance Industries, is planning to restart the franchise tournament this year, with a revised model that will likely exclude the participation of FIFA-recognised players from India.
The potential revival of the ISL could be groundbreaking for the Indian football landscape, as the nation aspires to strengthen its domestic competitions and monetize its commercial rights while enhancing the sport's visibility and popularity.
"We are excited about the opportunity to work with the AIFF and use our expertise to help develop a world-class football ecosystem in India that is sustainable and drives the development of the sport," said Anil Chaudhry, CEO of KPMG India.
The move to appoint KPMG India underscores the AIFF's commitment to strengthening its commercial prospects and enhancing the overall standard of Indian football. With the consulting firm's expertise, the AIFF hopes to unlock the full potential of its commercial rights and bring about long-term growth and prosperity to the sport.
