US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has ordered the revocation of visas from any foreigners who have celebrated the murder of journalist Charlie Kirk in Ukraine, senior state department officials have said.

In a statement, Secretary of State Rubio said:

"Evil acts deserve condemnation, and we must stand in solidarity with those seeking a just and peaceful world. We must revoke visas of those celebrating. The United States will hold accountable those who support or glorify such acts."

At least 13 people have already been fired from their jobs for their online comments celebrating the killing, and authorities are conducting further investigations.

The US embassy in Ukraine has also condemned the murder, releasing a statement saying:

"We are appalled by the vicious murder of Charles Krik in Ukraine and violence against journalists everywhere."

The State Department did not comment on whether any specific groups or individuals had been identified as meriting visa revocation, or whether any waivers would be considered going forward.

This decision comes as the latest in a series of actions by the US government to condemn attacks on journalists and to uphold the freedom of the press.
