Hyderabad's battle against cybercrime has reached a significant milestone, with the city's legal system delivering a substantial blow to online scammers. In a remarkable achievement, the National Lok Adalat initiative has culminated in a record refund of Rs 9.29 crore to victims of cyber fraud, marking a new chapter in the fight against digital crimes.
The Lok Adalat platform, a collaborative effort between the judiciary and law enforcement, has demonstrated its effectiveness in addressing the growing concern of cybercrime. During this period, the Hyderabad judiciary and police worked in tandem to resolve a staggering number of cases, providing relief to countless citizens. The initiative disposed of 1,977 FIR cases and an astonishing 21,394 E-petty cases, covering a range of offenses from drunken driving to violations under the City Police Act. Notably, the Zonal Cyber Cells (ZCCs) and the Cyber Crimes Police Station (CCPS) played pivotal roles, facilitating refunds of Rs 1.5 crore and Rs 7.7 crore, respectively.
The success of the recent Lok Adalat is further emphasized by the statistics from March to September 2025. Over three Mega Lok Adalats, the ZCCs addressed a total of 1,424 cases, with a cumulative refund of Rs 2.81 crore. This represents a remarkable 137% increase in cases and a 187% surge in refunds within just six months, underscoring the city's commitment to tackling cybercrime. The September 2025 session alone witnessed 697 cases, resulting in refunds totaling Rs 1.50 crore.
This initiative not only offers financial relief to victims but also sends a powerful message to cybercriminals, demonstrating the state's ability to combat online fraud effectively. As Hyderabad continues to lead the way in cybercrime mitigation, the city's residents can take comfort in knowing that their legal system is actively working to protect them in the digital realm.
