Waqf Board Identifies 17 Monuments as Its Property
The Karnataka Waqf Board has officially recognized 17 monuments inside the historic Bidar Fort as its property, sparking surprise among officials from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). According to district administration sources, this discovery came to light on November 6, 2024. Among the properties identified are several key historical sites with significant cultural value.
Notable Monuments Inside Bidar Fort
The monuments identified include the 16-pillar mosque (Khamba Mosque) and 14 tombs of Bahmani rulers and their family members. These structures are integral to the fort's rich history, which dates back to the 12th century. The mosque, renowned for its architectural beauty, and the tombs of important historical figures, are now officially under the ownership of the Waqf Board.
ASI Caught Off Guard
The identification has raised concerns among the ASI, who were caught unawares by the Waqf Board's move. The issue centers on the ownership and preservation of these heritage sites, as the Waqf Board's claim challenges the ASI's control over the fort's historic properties. This development has sparked debates about the management and legal status of such sites, with the potential for future legal and administrative disputes.
