In a bold move to tackle criminal activities, the Jhalawar district in Rajasthan has taken an innovative approach by targeting the power supply of known offenders. On Wednesday, a joint operation between the local police and the Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (JVVNL) cut off electricity to 371 history-sheeters and suspected drug peddlers, sending a powerful message. This operation, named 'Urja Prahar', has not only disrupted illegal activities but has also resulted in substantial financial penalties for the offenders.

The operation was a well-coordinated effort, with 48 engineers from JVVNL and 350 police personnel conducting checks at 660 locations across the district. Among those penalized were Mansab Ali, who was fined Rs 66,000 for illegally powering a water plant, and the family of Sagar, facing a Rs 85,000 penalty while Sagar is in judicial custody under the Rajasthan Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act. The operation also targeted Akram, a history-sheeter, and Ashfaq, alias Akram, who was caught diverting power to luxury homes and shops. These examples illustrate the diverse range of illegal activities and the determination of the authorities to address them.

"The operation aimed to cut the rampant use of illegal power supply by criminals and mafias for their illicit business," said Jhalawar SP Amit Kumar.
