In a significant move to maintain discipline and team unity, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has enforced a set of strict rules ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy. These new regulations aim to curb distractions and prevent leaks from the Indian dressing room, which have been a concern in recent months.
One of the major changes directly affects head coach Gautam Gambhir, whose personal assistant (PA) has been barred from staying in the team hotel or traveling with the squad. During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, Gambhir's PA was often seen accompanying him, leading to concerns within the board. Reports suggest that the PA has now been moved to a different hotel and will not have unrestricted access to the team.
A BCCI official expressed frustration over the PA’s previous privileges, questioning his presence in selectors’ meetings, the team’s hospitality areas, and private dining spaces. The board is now determined to prevent any unauthorized individuals from interfering with team matters.
Additionally, players will no longer be allowed to have their family members, wives, or partners accompany them during the Champions Trophy. In rare cases where an exception is granted, the player must bear the travel expenses personally. This marks a departure from previous policies, emphasizing the board’s intent to create a focused and disciplined team environment.
With these new rules in place, the BCCI aims to ensure that Team India remains united and fully prepared for the high-stakes tournament in Dubai.
