Liverpool manager Arne Slot haspraised Wolverhampton forward Matheus Cunha, suggesting the 25-year-old couldsoon be playing for one of the Premier League’s top clubs. Cunha has emerged asone of the brightest talents at Molineux, and his performances in England havecaught the attention of several European giants. Ahead of Liverpool’s PremierLeague clash with Wolves, Slot was full of admiration for the rising star.“Matheus Cunha is a quality player, and he has the ability to play for one ofthe top five teams in England,” said the Liverpool manager, as reported bymultiple outlets.
Slot went on to explain that Cunhadeserves to play for one of the league's best teams, despite Wolves currentlysitting in 17th place.
“He’s the kind of player I think ofwhen I compare leagues. If you look at the 17th-placed team in the Dutchleague, there’s no player there who could play for Ajax, PSV, or Feyenoord,”Slot stated.
The Dutchman also highlighted thefierce competition within the Premier League, emphasizing how challenging it isto secure victories in England’s topflight. “That’s why it’s so much harder towin against 17th place in England than in the Netherlands,” he noted. Slotadded that when Liverpool faced Wolves under Gary O’Neil, Cunha had animpressive performance, and he expects a tough challenge again this weekend.
Earlier this year, there wasspeculation surrounding Cunha’s future at Wolves, with rumors suggesting a moveaway during the winter transfer window. However, the forward opted to stay andsigned a new contract that includes a release clause, which could allow for apotential transfer if an appropriate offer comes in.
Cunha has attracted interest from topPremier League clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal, and Tottenham, withLiverpool also reportedly keen on strengthening their attacking options, particularly with Mohamed Salah's future at Anfield uncertain. Liverpool’s upcoming Premier Leaguefixture against Wolves will take place at Anfield on February 16.
