WPL 2025: Shafali Verma Stars as Delhi Capitals Edge Mumbai Indians in Last-Ball Thriller

In a high-voltage Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 clash, Delhi Capitals (DC) secured a dramatic two-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in Vadodara. A blistering knock from Shafali Verma (43 off 18 balls) and a composed finish by Niki Prasad (35) helped DC chase down 164 on the last ball.

MI Batting: Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Anchor the Innings

After being put in to bat, MI posted 164 in 19.1 overs, thanks to Nat Sciver-Brunt’s unbeaten 80 and a quickfire 42 off 22 balls from Harmanpreet Kaur. The duo steadied MI after early setbacks but lacked enough support from the middle order.

DC's Chase: A Flying Start and Late Drama

DC got off to a sensational start as Shafali Verma’s explosive innings took them to 60 for no loss in just a few overs. However, MI’s bowlers staged a stunning comeback, dismissing Alice Capsey (16), Annabel Sutherland (13), and Sarah Bryce (21) to put DC under pressure.

With 21 needed off 12 balls and four wickets in hand, Radha Yadav (9) struck a crucial six, while Niki Prasad’s boundary brought DC close. Niki was dismissed in the penultimate over, leaving Arundhati Reddy (2) to take the winning runs off the last ball.

A Thrilling Finish

Despite MI’s spirited bowling effort, DC held their nerves in a nail-biting finish. The win cements their position as strong contenders in WPL 2025, while MI will look to bounce back in the next match.
