Powering Nellore: APSPDCL's 400 Crore Commitment

In a significant development for the power sector in Andhra Pradesh, the Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL) is investing a substantial 400 crore to fortify the electricity supply in SPSR Nellore district. This ambitious project, undertaken as part of the Central Government's Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), aims to bring about a transformative change in the region's power infrastructure.

The RDSS, a strategic initiative by the Government of India, focuses on enhancing the overall efficiency and sustainability of power distribution companies. In Nellore, this translates into the installation of modern technology to minimize power outages and ensure a consistent electricity supply. The project's impact is already evident, with the construction of the district's first container substation, a key step towards achieving uninterrupted power.

During a surprise inspection of the RDSS works in several villages, including Pottepalem, Devarapalem, Kommalapudi, and Siddipuram, APSPDCL Chief General Manager (Projects) J. Ramana Devi witnessed the rapid progress. The project has already seen the installation of numerous transformers with varying capacities, including 288 of 100 kVA, 356 of 63 kVA, and 182 of 25 kVA. The construction of 11 KV and LT lines is well underway, with significant portions already completed, demonstrating the project's swift execution.

The benefits of this initiative extend beyond reliable power supply. As Ramana Devi highlighted, the project will catalyze rural development, enabling the establishment of small and medium-scale industries, cold storages, and processing units. This will not only create local employment opportunities but also pave the way for broader economic growth and industrialization in the region. With the project's completion, Nellore district is poised to witness a significant enhancement in its power infrastructure, fostering a more robust and resilient local economy.
