Andhra Pradesh is set to witness a significant transformation in its power infrastructure, with a massive 400 crore investment in the SPSR Nellore district. This ambitious project, led by the Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL), aims to modernize and strengthen the region's power supply, bringing a new era of reliability and efficiency.
The Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), an initiative by the Centre, is the driving force behind this development. The scheme focuses on enhancing the quality and affordability of electricity supply by improving the financial and operational aspects of power distribution companies. APSPDCL's Chief General Manager (Projects), J. Ramana Devi, is at the forefront of this initiative, ensuring the rapid progress of the project. During a surprise inspection of the RDSS works in several villages within the Nellore Rural division, Devi witnessed the installation of numerous transformers with capacities ranging from 25 kVA to 100 kVA. The construction of 11 KV and LT lines is well underway, with substantial progress made towards the completion of the targeted 2,821 km and 1,117 km, respectively.
This upgrade will have far-reaching benefits for the region. Once completed, farmers in the villages will enjoy uninterrupted, high-quality three-phase power supply, and the speed of rural electrification will increase significantly. The enhanced infrastructure will also pave the way for industrial growth, enabling the establishment of small and medium-scale industries, cold storages, and processing units. This development promises to create local employment opportunities and foster economic growth in the area.
As the project progresses, Nellore's power supply system is set to undergo a remarkable evolution, unlocking the district's potential for industrial advancement and rural development.
