The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken corrective action following the controversy over the absence of the Indian flag at Karachi’s National Stadium ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Recent visuals from the venue show that India’s flag has now been placed alongside those of other participating nations, resolving the issue that had sparked widespread criticism on social media.
The controversy erupted when fans noticed that India's flag was missing from the stadium, leading to speculation about Pakistan’s intent. As social media outrage grew, the PCB clarified its position, stating that only the flags of teams playing in Pakistan were initially displayed. A PCB official explained that since India will be playing its matches in Dubai, and Bangladesh had not yet arrived in Pakistan, their flags were not put up at the stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi.
However, the explanation did little to satisfy critics, with many questioning why the flag was omitted in the first place. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla weighed in on the issue, stating that if India’s flag was missing, it should have been included as part of the standard protocol for international tournaments.
Despite the PCB’s justification, the issue has highlighted the underlying tensions between the two cricket boards. With India set to play its matches in Dubai due to political tensions, the tournament's organization remains a sensitive topic. However, with India’s flag now displayed at the National Stadium, the controversy appears to have settled for now.
