In a significant operation, the Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG) has struck a powerful blow against an international drug trafficking syndicate, seizing a massive quantity of ecstasy pills and cash. The agency's efforts culminated in the arrest of two individuals and the discovery of a covert storage location, shedding light on a sophisticated drug operation with links to Holland.
The operation began with the arrest of Fallou Cham at London Corner in Serrekunda, who was found with 1,767 suspected ecstasy pills. This initial apprehension led investigators to a residence in Sukuta, where a startling find awaited. Inside, they uncovered a hidden stash of 11 suitcases, each containing 80 packets, amounting to a staggering 440,000 ecstasy pills. The total street value of the seized drugs is estimated at D40 million.
The investigation further revealed the involvement of Mariama Jawara, arrested at her Brufut residence. Jawara is believed to have orchestrated the drug shipment from Holland, allegedly with the help of her husband, who resides in the Netherlands. The syndicate's reach extended across international borders, highlighting the complexity of modern drug trafficking networks.
DLEAG's Director General emphasized the agency's unwavering stance against drug trafficking, stating, "We are sending a clear message to traffickers: The Gambia will not be a safe haven for your crimes." This operation is a testament to the agency's commitment to intelligence-led operations and international cooperation. As the investigation unfolds, DLEAG continues to urge the public to remain vigilant, playing a crucial role in disrupting criminal activities and safeguarding the nation's well-being.
