Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali has openly criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for its selective treatment of injured players. In a recent podcast interview, Hasan questioned why rising star Saim Ayub was sent to London for rehabilitation while other injured players, including himself in the past, were not given similar support.
Saim Ayub, who suffered a right ankle fracture during Pakistan’s tour of South Africa, has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy and is currently undergoing treatment in London. Expressing his frustration, Hasan Ali recalled how he was left without PCB’s support during his injury struggles in 2020. "Saim Ayub is injured, and he gets top-class treatment. Wasn’t I also a team member in 2020? Does he play for India?" Hasan remarked on the Ultra Edge podcast, highlighting PCB’s alleged favoritism.
Although Hasan wished Saim a speedy recovery, he doubted that the PCB would extend the same level of support if he or another player were to face a similar injury in the future. “Every rise has a fall. If Saim gets injured again, will they treat him the same way? No, they won’t,” he added.
Meanwhile, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting praised Saim Ayub’s talent, calling him a “high-quality” cricketer and acknowledging his absence as a significant blow to Pakistan’s squad. Ponting also lauded Pakistan’s fast-bowling attack, led by Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah, noting that their pace and skill could trouble any batting lineup.
With Hasan Ali’s statements raising concerns about player welfare and favoritism within PCB, the issue has sparked discussions about fair treatment for all cricketers, regardless of their current standing in the team.
