French President Emmanuel Macron plans to visit Washington to urge U.S. President Donald Trump to maintain a firm stance against Russian President Vladimir Putin. Macron expressed concerns over Trump's openness to resuming diplomacy with Russia to end the ongoing war in Ukraine, potentially bypassing European allies and Kyiv. He emphasized that showing weakness towards Putin would undermine Western efforts to counter threats from Russia, China, and Iran.

Macron's visit comes amid a shifting geopolitical landscape, with the U.S. signaling a possible reduction of its military presence in Europe. This has alarmed European nations, prompting Macron to convene emergency summits with European leaders to discuss security measures and Ukraine’s position in any potential peace negotiations.
