Shubman Gill’s Century Powers India to 6-Wicket Victory Over Bangladesh in Champions Trophy 2025

India kicked off their Champions Trophy 2025 campaign with a convincing six-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the second match of the tournament. The game, played in Karachi on February 21, saw a stellar century from Shubman Gill (101 off 129 balls)* and an excellent bowling performance by Mohammed Shami (5/42) to guide India home while chasing 229.

Bangladesh’s Strong Fightback After a Horrible Start

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Bangladesh got off to a disastrous start, slumping to 35/5 in the early overs. However, Towhid Hridoy (107 off 126 balls) played a heroic knock, battling cramps and pressure to score his maiden ODI century. His 154-run partnership with Jaker Ali (68) rescued Bangladesh from complete collapse and helped them post a respectable 228 all out. The duo’s stand set the highest sixth-wicket partnership in Champions Trophy history.

For India, Mohammed Shami led the bowling attack with a brilliant five-wicket haul, while Axar Patel (2/37) and Harshit Rana (1/32) provided crucial breakthroughs.

Shubman Gill Anchors India’s Chase

Chasing 229, India started positively with Rohit Sharma (41 off 36) setting the tone before being dismissed by Taskin Ahmed. Virat Kohli (22), Shreyas Iyer (15), and Axar Patel (8) got starts but couldn't convert. However, Shubman Gill held his ground, scoring a well-paced century, ensuring India remained in control. KL Rahul (41 off 47 balls)* provided vital support, finishing the chase with a six in the 47th over, as India reached 231/4 with 21 balls to spare.
