In a significant step forward in the battle against human trafficking, Hyderabad Police has established Telangana's inaugural Anti-Human Trafficking Unit - Victim Assistance Centre (AHTU-VAC). This centre, located within the Women's Police Station in Basheerbagh, promises to be a beacon of hope for survivors, offering a comprehensive support system.

The AHTU-VAC is a collaborative effort, bringing together a diverse team of professionals, including police officers, psychologists, legal experts, and medical professionals. This multidisciplinary approach aims to provide holistic care to trafficking survivors, addressing their legal, psychological, and social needs. The centre will offer a range of services, from legal aid and counselling to vocational training and reintegration support, ensuring survivors receive the necessary tools to rebuild their lives.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner K. Sreenivasa Reddy emphasized the centre's focus on the victims, stating that it is designed as a safe haven for healing and recovery. This initiative bridges the crucial gap between rescue and rehabilitation, a phase where many survivors often struggle. By partnering with experienced NGOs like Prajwala and My Choices Foundation, the police aim to strengthen their response to trafficking. Prajwala, with its extensive experience in survivor rehabilitation, and My Choices Foundation, focusing on prevention and empowerment, will play pivotal roles in this collaborative effort.

The centre's establishment is a strategic move to enhance institutional capacity in combating trafficking, with a particular focus on underreported issues such as bonded labour, child labour, forced marriages, and sexual exploitation. This initiative also supports broader child protection efforts, addressing cases of abuse and missing children. As a pioneering model in Telangana, the AHTU-VAC is set to inspire similar units across the state, marking a transformative phase in the region's anti-trafficking strategy.
