In a significant move to tighten security and curb illicit activities, the Bihar government has announced the establishment of 393 check posts at strategic border locations. This bold initiative aims to tackle the rampant smuggling of liquor, narcotics, and weapons that has long plagued the state. With a comprehensive plan to fortify its borders, Bihar is taking a proactive approach to address a critical issue.

The state's decision comes as a response to the alarming volume of illegal substances entering its territory. Since the implementation of the liquor ban in 2016, over 2.75 crore litres of liquor have been seized, with a staggering 97% of it subsequently destroyed. This statistic highlights the magnitude of the problem and the necessity for stringent measures. To address this, the Additional Director General (ADG) of the prohibition unit, Amit Kumar Jain, revealed the plan to set up these check posts at 23 crucial border points.

Furthermore, the strategy extends beyond Bihar's borders, with a request to neighbouring states to establish 176 mirror police check posts in their sensitive areas. This coordinated effort includes 96 posts in UP, 34 in West Bengal, and 46 in Jharkhand. By engaging in this collaborative approach, Bihar aims to create a unified front against smuggling, ensuring that its efforts are not undermined by porous borders. This initiative marks a significant step towards securing the state's borders and addressing the challenges posed by illegal trade, with potential long-term benefits for the region's safety and security.
