In a significant victory against cross-border drug trafficking, Punjab Police, in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF), have dismantled a sophisticated drug operation, seizing a substantial quantity of heroin and a powerful firearm. This operation, led by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Border Range, has shed light on the intricate network of international drug smuggling and its local distribution channels.
The police arrested Sajan Singh, a hairdresser from Amritsar's Beharwal village, who was found in possession of 25.9 kg of heroin, meticulously packed into 25 individual packets. The authorities also recovered a 9MM Glock pistol, a weapon that could have potentially wreaked havoc in the wrong hands. Sajan Singh, known as Billa, was a key player in the network orchestrated by the foreign-based gangster Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Jatt. Happy Jatt, a native of Jandiala Guru in Amritsar, currently abroad, is a proclaimed offender with a staggering 21 criminal cases pending against him in Punjab alone.
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, revealed that Happy Jatt was in cahoots with Pakistan-based smugglers who employed drones to transport heroin across the border. Sajan Singh's role was to collect and distribute these illicit consignments. The operation gained momentum when precise intelligence led the ANTF and BSF teams to apprehend Sajan Singh near Beharwal village as he was en route to deliver a consignment. This particular shipment had been delivered via a heavy drone from Pakistan, showcasing the sophisticated technology utilized by the drug syndicate.
The investigation has identified two additional network members, and police raids are underway to bring them to justice. This successful operation underscores the commitment of Punjab Police and BSF to combat cross-border narco-terrorism and maintain the security of the region.
