India Stuns Netherlands in FIH Pro League, Men and Women Secure Thrilling Wins

The Indian women's hockey team secured a historic victory against the Netherlands in a dramatic shootout, winning 2-1 in their final home match of the FIH Pro League. Goalkeeper Savita Punia played a crucial role, making four saves in the shootout, including the decisive stop against Pien Dicke. This marked India's third-ever win over the Dutch, a team that has dominated world hockey. The Netherlands led 2-0 at halftime, with goals from Pien Sanders and Fay van der Elst. However, India fought back in the second half, with Deepika and Baljeet Kaur scoring to level the match. In the shootout, Deepika and Mumtaz converted their attempts, while Savita ensured victory with her brilliant goalkeeping. Coach Harendra Singh emphasized the need for consistency in performances beyond home matches.

In the men's tournament, India defeated England 2-1, with Harmanpreet Singh scoring twice from penalty corners. England equalized through a penalty stroke by Conor Williamson, but India's strong defense secured the win. Germany also triumphed over Ireland 4-2, overcoming two early deficits. Malte Hellwig scored twice in the final quarter, sealing the victory.

The Pro League standings remain tight, with the Netherlands leading the women’s table, while the men’s tournament is highly competitive, with England and Belgium at the top. The competition will resume in June in Valencia and Amsterdam.
