India’s Siddhant Banthia and Parikshit Somani cruised into thedoubles semifinals at the Bengaluru Open, an ATP Challenger 125 event, with adominant straight-set victory over Nicolas Mejia and Bernard Tomic on Thursday.The unseeded Indian duo triumphed 7-5, 6-0, and will now face Australia's BlakeBayldon and Matthew Christopher Romios for a place in the final.
Earlier,Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni moved a step closer to successfullydefending their title with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Hynek Barton and EricVanshelboim.
Intheir match, after an evenly contested first set, Banthia and Somani battledhard with Mejia and Tomic, who came close to gaining an advantage in gameseven. However, the Indian pair saved a crucial break point and then poweredthrough games nine and eleven on their serve before breaking in game twelve totake the lead. Carrying that momentum into the second set, Banthia and Somaniwrapped up the match in just 20 minutes.
Ramkumarand Saketh, on the other hand, broke early in the first set to establishcontrol and then secured key breaks in games five and nine of the second set toclaim the win.
Thetwo Indian pairs will face their respective opponents for a place in the final,with Ramkumar and Saketh set to meet the winners of the match between AnirudhChandrasekar/Ray Ho and SD Prajwal Dev/Aryan Shah.
Inthe doubles draw, second-seeded Bayldon and Romios also made it to thesemifinals, defeating India’s Adil Kalyanpur and Karan Singh.
In the singles, Hynek Barton continued his impressive run with a7-6(5), 6-3 victory over Denmark’s August Holmgren, advancing to thequarterfinals. Third seed Brandon Holt staged a comeback after losing the firstset to defeat former World No. 17 Bernard Tomic 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, securing hisplace in the last eight. Meanwhile, seventh seed Shintaro Mochizuki defeatedJay Clarke 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 in the third singles match of the day.
