Telangana's Liquor Smuggling Bust: 234 Bottles Seized

In a significant operation against illicit liquor trade, Telangana's excise department has seized a substantial cache of non-duty paid liquor (NDPL) bottles, valued at Rs. 3 lakh, in two separate incidents. This crackdown highlights the ongoing efforts to curb the smuggling of alcohol into the state during the festive season.

On Wednesday, the state excise team, led by Inspector Praveen Kumar, intercepted a vehicle and uncovered a large consignment of 220 NDPL bottles, sourced from various states, including Lucknow, Goa, and Haryana. This haul, worth Rs. 2.5 lakh, was destined for Hyderabad, indicating a well-organized smuggling network. In a separate operation, the Malkajgiri district excise task force seized 14 bottles of Scotch brand liquor, valued at Rs. 50,000, being transported from Goa.

The successful seizures were the result of vigilant inspections and the collaboration of various law enforcement agencies. Shahanawaz Qasim, Director of Telangana Excise and Enforcement, and Malkagiri DTF Manju oversaw the operations, ensuring the smugglers' activities were disrupted.

This crackdown sends a strong message to those involved in the illegal liquor trade, as the authorities demonstrate their commitment to safeguarding public health and safety. With the festival season in full swing, the excise department's vigilance is crucial in preventing the circulation of illicit alcohol, which often poses health risks and deprives the state of much-needed revenue. The public can expect further updates as the investigation unfolds, potentially leading to the dismantling of larger smuggling networks.
