EPFO Retains 8.25% Interest Rate on Provident Fund for 2024-25

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has decided to retain the interest rate on provident fund (PF) deposits at 8.25% for the financial year 2024-25. This decision benefits over 7 crore subscribers and maintains the rate set for 2023-24, which was an increase from the 8.15% offered in 2022-23. The EPFO's decision is based on a rise in income, with earnings reaching Rs 1.07 lakh crore in 2023-24, the highest ever, on a principal of Rs 13 lakh crore.

In 2024-25, the retirement body processed 50.8 million claims worth Rs 2.05 lakh crore, reflecting growth from 44.5 million claims totaling Rs 1.82 lakh crore in the previous year. The EPF interest rate has historically fluctuated, with rates at 8.65% in 2018-19, 8.5% in 2019-20, and 8.1% in 2021-22, showing a general decline over the years. Higher interest rates were recorded in 2015-16 at 8.8% and 8.75% in both 2013-14 and 2014-15.  Subscribers can check their EPF balances through the Umang app, EPFO’s online portal, or via a missed call service. The retention of the 8.25% interest rate for 2024-25 is seen as a stable move that provides financial security to EPF subscribers while reflecting strong returns on investment.
