In a significant move to combat the rising tide of cybercrime, the Telangana Police have launched a strategic initiative to keep a closer eye on repeat offenders. With a focus on financial fraud and social media-related offenses, the police aim to curb the rampant activities of these cybercriminals.
The Director-General of Police, Jitender, has directed cybercrime station Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors to initiate a comprehensive monitoring system. This involves creating suspect or history sheets for habitual offenders, a move that will enable law enforcement to track their activities and prevent further crimes. The decision comes as a response to the alarming frequency of cybercrimes, often committed by the same individuals.
This proactive approach is expected to deter potential cyber fraudsters, who have been targeting unsuspecting victims and stealing their hard-earned money. The police have been instructed to identify these repeat offenders, maintain detailed records, and ensure constant surveillance to effectively manage their activities. The suspect sheets, opened under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, will categorize these individuals as 'history sheeters', even if they have not yet been convicted.
The recent surge in cybercrime is evident from the statistics. In August 2025, Hyderabad's cybercrime police station received 338 complaints through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), leading to the registration of 233 FIRs at the cybercrime police station and 90 FIRs at the zonal cyber cells of Hyderabad City Police. The police's special operations resulted in the arrest of 61 individuals from across India, with over 1.01 crore rupees being returned to the victims. This crackdown sends a strong message to cybercriminals, indicating that their days of striking with impunity are numbered.
As the Telangana Police continue their efforts, the public can expect a safer digital environment, with increased protection from online fraud and scams.
