In a significant crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, Hyderabad police have dealt a substantial blow to ganja smuggling operations in the region. The authorities have attached properties worth over Rs. 23.52 lakh belonging to four alleged smugglers and their relatives in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. This move comes as a result of a meticulous financial investigation following the arrest of the accused.
The Edulla Bayyararm police registered the case on June 29 under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, including 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(C), 27A, and 29. Circle Inspector Venkateshwara Rao stated that the investigation revealed the accused had acquired these properties through the proceeds of their illicit ganja transportation activities. This led to a freezing order being obtained, enabling the seizure of assets.
The list of seized items is extensive, including a tractor, a car, an auto-rickshaw, four motorcycles, and three houses. The police clarified that these assets were either directly purchased by the smugglers or acquired in the names of their relatives using the illegal funds. The accused, all hailing from Thorrur mandal of Mahabubabad district, have been identified as Jatoth Vijay, a car driver; Jatoth Bhaskar, an auto driver aged 28; Jatoth Suresh, also known as Kanna; and Nunavat Ganesh.
This operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to disrupt the financial networks of drug trafficking. By targeting the proceeds of crime, the police aim to deter potential smugglers and disrupt the supply chain. The success of this operation will likely encourage further investigations into similar cases, sending a strong message to those involved in the illegal drug trade.
