In a significant blow to cross-border criminal activities, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled a major narcotics and arms smuggling network, seizing a substantial quantity of heroin and sophisticated firearms. This operation, led by Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, resulted in the arrest of six individuals and the recovery of 4.03 kg of heroin, a significant amount capable of fueling countless addictions.
The arrested individuals, aged between 20 and 42, were identified as residents of villages and colonies in Ferozepur and Tarn Taran. Among the weapons recovered were a 9mm Glock pistol and a .30 bore pistol, adding a dangerous dimension to the already illicit trade. The investigation revealed a disturbing connection to a Pakistan-based handler, Shah, who coordinated the smuggling operations via social media platforms.
The police operation began with the arrest of cousins Jagir Singh and Angrej Singh, who operated a dhaba in Ferozepur. This initial capture, which yielded 220 grams of heroin and a Glock pistol, led to a chain of further arrests and significant drug seizures. The subsequent interrogation of the accused led to the recovery of additional heroin, totaling 4.03 kg, and another pistol, indicating a well-organized and extensive smuggling operation.
Commissioner Bhullar's team has successfully disrupted this criminal network, but the investigation is far from over. With the potential for more arrests and recoveries, the police aim to unravel the full extent of this dangerous syndicate. This operation underscores the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and the importance of international cooperation in combating cross-border crimes.
