In a significant blow to cross-border narcotics and arms trafficking, Punjab Police has successfully dismantled a sophisticated network, arresting six individuals and seizing a substantial quantity of heroin and firearms. The operation, a result of meticulous intelligence work, has shed light on the clandestine activities of a Pakistan-connected syndicate operating in the state.
On Thursday, the Punjab Police announced the arrests of six men from Amritsar, seizing a total of 4.03 kg of heroin and two firearms, including a 9 MM Glock pistol. The accused, aged between 20 and 42, were identified as Jagir Singh, Angrej Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Baljinder Singh, Gurpreet Singh, and Palwinder Singh, hailing from Ferozepur and Tarn Taran districts.
The investigation revealed a disturbing connection to a Pakistan-based handler, Shah, who coordinated the illegal activities via social media. The syndicate's modus operandi involved receiving heroin and weapons via drone deliveries in the Khemkaran and Ferozepur sectors, which were then distributed in Amritsar. The arrests were made following a well-coordinated operation, with the initial capture of Jagir and Angrej, who were found with 220 grams of heroin and a Glock pistol at their Ferozepur dhaba.
The subsequent interrogation led to further arrests and substantial drug seizures, including 2.813 kg of heroin and a .30 bore pistol. The total haul of 4.03 kg of heroin underscores the magnitude of the operation's success in disrupting the drug supply chain. The ongoing investigation aims to unravel the full extent of this cross-border criminal enterprise, ensuring that justice is served and public safety is upheld.
