Nellore's Streets Sparkle with Civic Pride

In a city where littering and unauthorized dumping were once rampant, a dedicated civic leader is making a difference, one street at a time. Nellore's 14th Division Corporator, Kartham Prathap Reddy, has embarked on a mission to transform his constituency into a model of cleanliness and environmental responsibility. With a personal commitment to public service, he has already made significant strides in just a few weeks.

Reddy's initiative, "One Day, One Street," aims to sanitize and beautify every street in his division. Since its launch on August 18, 2025, the program has covered 30 streets out of 80, with dedicated cleaning efforts four days a week. Each morning, municipal staff and three private workers, hired by the Corporator, descend on the streets, armed with oil balls, bleach, and mosquito repellents. They diligently remove silt and soil from canals, fogging and spraying to ensure a healthier environment for residents.

The Corporator's passion for cleanliness is not limited to street sanitation. He has also taken steps to address unauthorized dumping, a persistent issue in the city. By planting Tulsi saplings at these sites, Reddy has found an innovative way to discourage littering. This approach caught the attention of the former municipal commissioner, Surya Teja, who directed officials to replicate this strategy across all divisions.

As Reddy continues his drive, he emphasizes the importance of collective responsibility. "It is the duty of every citizen to maintain a clean environment," he reminds residents. With his dedication and the support of the community, Nellore's streets are not just getting cleaner; they are becoming a testament to the power of civic engagement and the beauty that can arise from it.
