In a significant move to empower women and boost local entrepreneurship, the government of Nellore is set to launch the Smart Street Bazar (SSB), a modern marketplace with a twist of traditional charm. With an investment of Rs 8 crore, this initiative aims to provide a platform for self-help groups (SHGs) to thrive and contribute to the city's economic growth.
The brainchild of MA&UD Minister P Narayana, the SSB will transform the Mypadu Gate Centre into a bustling hub of commercial activity. The project involves establishing 200 shops equipped with modern amenities, 120 of which are already completed. These shops will be allocated to women from SHGs, offering them a chance to showcase their skills and products. The selection process has been rigorous, with 120 women already chosen to embark on this entrepreneurial journey.
Municipal Commissioner YO Nandan emphasized the project's objective, stating that it aims to accommodate street vendors, providing them with a permanent and well-equipped space to conduct their businesses. The government's commitment is evident in the substantial investment of Rs 6 crore towards infrastructure, including solar panels and CCTV cameras, ensuring a safe and sustainable environment.
Beneficiaries like K Sulochana, a former street vendor, are thrilled about this opportunity. She expressed her gratitude, saying, "I am excited to move my tiffin business from the roadside to a proper shop, which will undoubtedly enhance my trade." This initiative promises to be a game-changer, fostering economic empowerment and potentially inspiring similar projects across the region. As the SSB prepares for its grand opening in October, Nellore's women entrepreneurs eagerly await the chance to showcase their talents and contribute to the city's vibrant economy.
