In a shocking case that highlights the dark side of digital technology, two cyber fraudsters have been arrested in Telangana for their role in a cruel scam that resulted in a woman's death. The incident, the first of its kind since the recent directives from DGP Dr. Jitender, has brought to light the devastating consequences of online extortion.
The prime accused, Shankar, and his accomplice, Vishwas Dattatraya Miraje, both from Maharashtra, orchestrated a sophisticated fraud by impersonating police officials from Bengaluru. They targeted a retired CSRMO from MN Area Hospital in Malakpet, Hyderabad, accusing her of human trafficking and presenting forged documents from high-profile institutions. This led to the victim transferring a significant sum of 6,60,543 from her pension account. However, the scammers' demands didn't stop there. They continued their intimidation even after the money was transferred, causing immense psychological distress. Tragically, the woman suffered a fatal cardiac arrest on September 8, just days after the harrowing experience.
The Cyberabad police have taken swift action, booking the accused under the BNS. ACP R.G. Siva Maruthi revealed that the duo is suspected of involvement in similar cases across Telangana and Gujarat. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the evolving tactics employed by cybercriminals and the urgent need for enhanced public awareness and security measures.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities aim to unravel the full extent of the perpetrators' activities and bring justice to the victim's family. This case underscores the importance of vigilance in the digital realm and the potential life-threatening consequences of online scams.
