In a dramatic midnight operation, Nagpur's crime branch has exposed a chilling underworld of drug trafficking and armed rivalry. The arrest of a young man, Nadeem Ansari, in the dimly lit streets of Vandevi Nagar, has led to the unravelling of an interstate narcotics network. The 23-year-old, riding a scooter through Yashodharanagar, was found with a country-made pistol, ammunition, and a valuable two-wheeler, sparking an investigation that would reveal a dangerous criminal web.
Ansari's capture was just the beginning. His testimony implicated Arjun Bunkar, a Chhindwara-based drug lord, as the supplier. The crime branch's pursuit of Bunkar led them across state lines to Madhya Pradesh, where they raided his hideout, seizing control of his operations. This operation highlights the growing trend of MD-fuelled gangs arming themselves with firearms to protect their illicit trade, a worrying development in the underworld.
The investigation also exposed a connection to Noor Alam, alias 'Bangali', a notorious narcotics kingpin in north Nagpur. Recently released from prison, Bangali had quickly resumed his criminal activities, forming an alliance with Bunkar to smuggle and distribute premium MD and other narcotics across state borders, catering to Nagpur's party scene. The swift action by the crime branch, under the leadership of Senior Inspector Rahul Shire and his team, has dealt a significant blow to this interstate drug cartel.
"We are determined to dismantle these criminal networks and ensure the safety of our citizens," said DCP Rahul Maknikar, emphasizing the police's commitment to eradicating the drug trade and its violent underbelly. The operation's success underscores the importance of intelligence-led policing and the ongoing battle against organized crime.
