In a significant move to combat drug trafficking, the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police have seized a motorcycle under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, sending a strong message to drug offenders. This action is part of a comprehensive strategy to disrupt the financial incentives associated with the illegal drug trade.
The motorcycle, registered as PB91E-1017, belonged to Ghulam Mohammad Rather, a resident of Kralpora, Kupwara, who is implicated in a drug-related case (FIR No. 164/2025) under Sections 8/15 of the NDPS Act at the Handwara Police Station. The police's decisive step was authorized by Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, which allows law enforcement to confiscate assets linked to narcotic trafficking. This proactive approach aims to deter potential criminals by targeting not only their freedom but also their financial gains.
Furthermore, the J&K Police's recent operations in Zainapora, Shopian, Budgam, and other districts have yielded substantial results. They recovered a significant quantity of illegal substances, including 1 Kg of charas-like material and a grinder machine from a residential property in Zainapora, Shopian. The police also arrested two drug peddlers in separate incidents, seizing over 200 grams of contraband substances.
"We are committed to eradicating the drug menace from our society," said a J&K Police spokesperson, emphasizing the force's dedication to this cause. The police also urged the public to actively participate in this fight by sharing information, assuring strict confidentiality for informants. This collaborative effort aims to create a safer, drug-free environment for the community.
