Punjab's War on Drugs: Dismantling Cross-Border Networks

In a significant victory in the battle against drug trafficking, Punjab's Counter Intelligence (CI) unit in Amritsar has disrupted a sophisticated cross-border drug smuggling operation, leading to the arrest of two key players and the seizure of a substantial quantity of heroin. This success is part of the state's aggressive anti-drug campaign, 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' (War Against Drugs), which has seen an astonishing 31,145 drug smugglers arrested in just 210 days.

The recent operation targeted a network linked to Pakistan, where a smuggler named Rana King allegedly used drones to airdrop narcotics into Indian territory. On the ground, Akashdeep Singh, alias Tony, and Pawanbir Singh were apprehended while transporting 4 kg of heroin on a motorcycle. This bust occurred on Chheharta-Sann Sahib Road, near Mannu Hospital, as the duo was en route to deliver their illicit cargo.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav emphasized the ongoing nature of the investigation, stating that more arrests and seizures are anticipated. The police are committed to dismantling the entire network, including those with cross-border connections and drone capabilities. This operation is a testament to the state's determination to combat drug trafficking, with a particular focus on international smuggling rings.

The Punjab government's formation of a Cabinet Sub-Committee to oversee the anti-drug campaign underscores the political commitment to this cause. As the crackdown continues, the state aims to protect its citizens from the devastating effects of the drug trade, sending a clear message that such criminal activities will not be tolerated.
