In a major victory for law enforcement, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has dealt a significant blow to the illegal drug trade in Kolkata, seizing a massive Rs 26 crore worth of narcotics and arresting 10 individuals linked to a sophisticated drug syndicate. This operation, which unfolded in the early hours of Friday, highlights the growing sophistication of drug trafficking networks and the challenges faced by authorities in combating this illicit trade.
The DRI's meticulous planning and execution led to simultaneous raids at strategic locations. At the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, officers intercepted four drug couriers, including three women, arriving from Bangkok, indicating the syndicate's international connections. Simultaneously, two residential premises in Bijoygarh, Jadavpur, were raided, revealing a substantial stash of drugs.
The mastermind's residence was a treasure trove of illegal substances, including hydroponic weed, cannabis, and cocaine. Another rented location, also under the mastermind's control, housed a large stock of cannabis, ready for distribution. These raids resulted in the seizure of over 32 kg of cannabis, 22 kg of hydroponic weed, and 345 grams of cocaine, along with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The operation's success underscores the DRI's commitment to disrupting drug trafficking networks. With the syndicate's key players behind bars and a substantial amount of drugs off the streets, Kolkata's battle against narcotics has gained significant ground. The DRI's ongoing investigation aims to unravel the financial web and international connections of this syndicate, potentially leading to further breakthroughs in the war against drug trafficking.
