TE Connectivity survey reveals inconsistent emergence of AI era globally

AI Integration Hindered by Training Gaps, Despite Strong Optimism

The 2025 Industrial Technology Index from TE Connectivity, a global leader in connectors and sensors, reveals that while artificial intelligence (AI) adoption is widespread, a lack of comprehensive training programs is slowing integration efforts. Despite these challenges, optimism about AI remains strong among businesses worldwide.

“AI is a disruptive force, and our index highlights both the opportunities and challenges companies face in its integration,” said TE Connectivity CEO Terrence Curtin. “Thoughtful investment in AI training is critical for accelerating adoption and driving future growth.”

The survey, now in its third year, gathered insights from 1,000 engineers and executives across China, Germany, India, Japan, and the United States. It found that AI adoption is common, with 68% of engineers and 70% of executives reporting some level of integration. However, training remains a barrier—42% of executives acknowledge that their companies do not provide AI training, which may explain why fewer than 25% of respondents report extensive AI use.

AI adoption rates also differ by country. In China, 28% of respondents report extensive AI use, with 60% saying their company has used AI for at least three years. Japan follows, with 51% indicating three years of AI experience, compared to 38% in Germany and 29% in India. The U.S. lags behind, with only 15% reporting extensive AI use and just 9% indicating three years of experience.

While AI’s potential is widely recognized, its role in sustainability remains underutilized. Although 50% of executives cite AI’s efficiency benefits, only 36% prioritize sustainability in their AI strategies. Economic pressures have led companies to focus more on cost savings than environmental goals.

Beyond efficiency gains, AI adoption can also influence hiring. The survey found that 80% of engineers prefer working for organizations that prioritize AI, suggesting that companies investing in AI may have a competitive edge in attracting talent.
