On July 6, 2024, Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, N Chandrababu Naidu and Revanth Reddy, respectively, met in Hyderabad to address unresolved issues stemming from the bifurcation of the states in 2014. The meeting, held at Mahatma Jyoti Rao Phule Praja Bhavan, aimed to tackle various aspects of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, including the division of state-run institutions and corporations listed in Schedule 9 and Schedule 10 of the Act.
The two-hour-long meeting resulted in the decision to form two committees: one comprising senior officials and the Chief Secretary from each state, and another including cabinet ministers. These committees will work towards resolving outstanding issues, with the Chief Ministers intervening if necessary. This approach aims to streamline the resolution process and ensure collaboration between the states.
Both state governments agreed to collaborate on reducing cyber crimes and tackling the drug menace. Andhra Pradesh Revenue Minister Anagani Satyaprasad highlighted the existing committee in Andhra Pradesh addressing the drug issue and briefed relevant ministers from both states on its efforts.
Despite the positive steps taken, the meeting faced criticism from the YSR Congress Party. Former Minister Perni Nani and former MLA Gadikota Srikanth Reddy expressed concerns that forming new committees could delay the resolution process. They emphasized the importance of involving the Central government, which enacted the Bifurcation Act, to ensure effective implementation and resolution of key issues, such as electricity dues and water management.
