Waco Drug Bust: Over 1,400 Potential Doses of Cocaine Off the Streets

In a significant drug enforcement operation, the McLennan County Sheriff's Office has dealt a substantial blow to local cocaine trafficking, arresting two individuals and confiscating a substantial quantity of the drug. The operation, executed in the heart of Waco, Texas, spanned two separate residences and resulted in the seizure of more than 290 grams of cocaine, a substantial amount that could have supplied an estimated 1,450 individual users.

The first raid, conducted in the 400 block of Spring Street, led to the discovery of over 250 grams of cocaine. Russell Harris was taken into custody and now faces a first-degree felony charge for the manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance over 200 grams but less than 400 grams. The second search warrant, executed in the 1900 block of 6th Street, yielded a similar success. Officers seized over 40 grams of cocaine, a loaded handgun, and more than $1,000 in suspected drug money. This residence's proximity to an elementary school, within 150 feet, adds a concerning dimension to the case. Kevin Greenwood was arrested at this location and charged with a first-degree felony for the manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance in a Designated Drug-Free Zone.

The McLennan County Sheriff's Office Organized Crime Unit and SWAT Team, in collaboration with the Waco Police Department's Drug Enforcement Unit, demonstrated a coordinated effort to combat drug trafficking in the area. This operation highlights the ongoing battle against illegal substances and the potential impact on the community, especially with the proximity of drug activity to educational institutions.

The arrests and seizures are a significant step in disrupting the local drug trade, but they also underscore the persistent nature of the problem. As law enforcement continues its efforts, the community's vigilance and support are crucial in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all residents.
