LSG's Pace Sensation Mayank Yadav Set to Miss First Half of IPL 2025 Due to Back Injury

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are poised to commence their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign without their star fast bowler, Mayank Yadav. The 22-year-old pacer is undergoing rehabilitation for a lumbar stress injury sustained after his T20I debut against Bangladesh in October 2024. Currently, he is recuperating at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and has recently resumed bowling activities.

Mayank's meteoric rise in the cricketing arena was marked by his consistent ability to bowl at speeds exceeding 150 kph. In the IPL 2024 season, he made an immediate impact by securing back-to-back Player-of-the-Match awards in his first two appearances. His performances were instrumental in LSG's strategies, leading the franchise to retain him for a substantial ₹11 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

However, Mayank's burgeoning career has been marred by injuries. His participation in IPL 2024 was limited to just four matches due to a side strain. During his rehabilitation for that injury, he encountered another setback, further delaying his return to competitive cricket. Despite these challenges, he earned his maiden India call-up for the T20I series against Bangladesh. Unfortunately, post-series, he suffered the current back injury that now sidelines him from the initial phase of IPL 2025.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not specified a definitive timeline for Mayank's return. His participation in the latter half of the IPL season hinges on meeting all fitness parameters and successfully increasing his bowling workload. LSG's team director, Zaheer Khan, emphasized the importance of a cautious approach to Mayank's recovery, stating that the franchise is collaborating closely with the BCCI's medical team to ensure he returns fully fit.

Mayank's absence presents a significant challenge for LSG, given his ability to deliver high-speed deliveries that trouble even the most seasoned batsmen. The team will need to reassess their bowling strategies and possibly seek reinforcements to fill the void left by their pace spearhead.

As the IPL 2025 season approaches, fans and analysts alike will keenly monitor Mayank Yadav's recovery progress, hoping for his swift return to the pitch, where his fiery pace has already made a lasting impression.
