In a series of coordinated raids across Selangor, police have dealt a significant blow to drug trafficking networks, seizing a staggering RM8.4 million worth of narcotics and arresting five individuals linked to four separate syndicates. This operation, spanning from September 23 to 26, highlights the ongoing battle against the illicit drug trade in Malaysia.
The Selangor Police Chief, Datuk Shazeli Kahar, revealed the details of the successful operation, which began at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) and extended to Sabak Bernam, Kajang, and Hulu Langat. The raids resulted in the confiscation of a substantial 106 kilograms of various drugs, including ketamine, ecstasy, cannabis, and syabu.
Among the arrests, a 42-year-old local man, employed by a construction contractor, was apprehended at KLIA2 with 12.3 kilograms of cannabis in his suitcase. His criminal history, including 16 previous drug-related offenses, and positive drug test results for amphetamine and methamphetamine, suggest a deep involvement in the drug trade.
The operation's reach extended to Kuala Selangor and Wangsa Maju, where a deliveryman was arrested in connection with a significant ecstasy seizure. The police's swift action led to the recovery of 26.5 kilograms of the drug, valued at RM4.3 million, along with a vehicle and various currencies.
Datuk Shazeli Kahar's statement underscores the significance of these busts, stating, "The drugs seized were intended for both local and international distribution, highlighting the global nature of the drug trade." The ongoing investigations under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 will provide further insights into these criminal networks and their operations.
