Elon Musk has reportedly expressed his intention to donate $100 million to political groups aligned with former US President Donald Trump. According to The New York Times, this level of political contribution is highly unusual for someone holding a government advisory position, even on a part-time basis. Musk’s support for Trump has intensified amid declining Tesla sales and growing criticism of his political stance. In response, Trump has voiced support for Tesla, even purchasing a vehicle from the company. He praised Musk’s efforts in the electric vehicle industry, stating that the billionaire has been treated unfairly despite his contributions.
Discussions between Musk’s team and Trump’s associates are ongoing regarding the planned donation. While Musk has previously funded America PAC, a super political action committee that has supported Trump, he now prefers to contribute to an external organization directly associated with the former president. A report from The Washington Post indicates that Musk had already spent nearly $288 million on Trump’s 2024 campaign and other Republican candidates, making him the largest political donor in the election.
There is still uncertainty about which specific political groups will receive Musk’s donation. Some of the main organizations leading Trump’s political activities include Make America Great Again (MAGA) and Securing American Greatness. However, there is speculation that Trump may establish a new entity to manage Musk’s contributions. Despite his large-scale political donations, Musk continues to fund various initiatives, including contributing $6 million to support a candidate in the upcoming Wisconsin Supreme Court election.
Musk’s growing financial involvement in Trump’s political operations reflects his broader efforts to influence policies that align with his business and personal interests. His support for Trump comes at a time when his companies, particularly Tesla, face mounting challenges, including declining sales and increased scrutiny.
