Kolkata: West Bengal is gearingup for a shift in political leadership, with BJP State President SukantaMajumdar expressing confidence that the BJP will come to power in 2026,replacing the ruling Trinamool Congress. Majumdar made this statement during acore committee meeting held in Kolkata on Sunday. The meeting was attended byBJP Bengal co-observer Amit Malviya, central leader Sunil Bansal, Purulia MPJyotirmoy Singh Mahato, and former MP Locket Chatterjee, among others.Discussions focused on selecting district and state leaders ahead of Union HomeMinister Amit Shah’s scheduled visit on March 27 to outline the roadmap for the2026 assembly elections.
As part of the BJP’s “SangathanParba” (Organizational Period), 25 of 43 district presidents have beenannounced, while the selection of the remaining 18 is underway. Majumdarclarified that changes in state leadership are imminent, emphasizing, “The captainmay change, but the team remains the same.”
The announcement of districtpresidents has sparked dissent in some quarters, with protests emerging outsideparty offices. Majumdar attributed some of the grievances to“Trinamool-sponsored” efforts but stressed that BJP accommodates both seasonedand new members. He assured that any differences could be resolved throughdiscussions with state and central leadership. Former MP Locket Chatterjeereiterated the party’s commitment, stating, “We always give 100% in everyfight.”
