Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recently announced the launch of a dedicated app for the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS), aiming to enhance participation by simplifying the registration process for its second round. The app leverages mobile technology to offer a more accessible and user-friendly experience for applicants, addressing the challenge of limited computer access.
The PMIS, introduced to improve employment opportunities for young individuals, targets the provision of internships to 10 million people over five years. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of ₹5,000 and a one-time grant of ₹6,000 for incidental expenses. This initiative aims to provide professional experiences and training across various sectors, helping youth gain valuable skills for future careers.
A Facilitation Centre has been established in Kolkata in partnership with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to assist candidates. Additionally, the MCA plans to hold over 70 Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) events nationwide to raise awareness about the scheme.
With an ambitious target of 1.25 lakh internships for the financial year 2025, the PMIS aims to empower young individuals aged 21 to 24 who meet specific academic qualifications, including completing their 10th, 12th, or a UG degree. This initiative will offer widespread opportunities for youth to gain professional experience and shape their future careers.
