In a remarkable display of devotion, the Sri Rajarajeswari Ammavari temple in Durgamitta, Nellore, has received an extraordinary offering of 31,14,321 rupees in just 20 days. This sacred site, a beacon of faith for many, witnessed an outpouring of generosity during the recent Navaratri festival. The temple's main hundis, traditional donation pots, accumulated a substantial 30,45,197 rupees, while the Annadanam hundi, dedicated to the cause of feeding the needy, received 69,124 rupees.
The temple's appeal goes beyond monetary contributions. Devotees also offered precious metals, including 73 grams of mixed gold and 298 grams of silver ornaments, transforming the temple into a glittering testament to their faith. The diversity of offerings extended to foreign currency, with a US$10 bill and a US$1 bill among the donations. This multicultural aspect adds a unique dimension to the temple's appeal, attracting a global community of worshippers.
The counting of these offerings was a meticulous process, supervised by Kovuru Janardhan Reddy, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Officer. The event was a collaborative effort involving festival committee members, chief priests, police, bank staff, and volunteers, ensuring transparency and security. Ch. Srinivasa Babu, Inspector from the Endowments Department, and Y.N. Sridhar Naidu, Executive Officer of Sri Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple, Pudiparthi, also played pivotal roles in overseeing the proceedings.
This substantial collection has been deposited in the Andhra Pragathi Grameena Bank, AK Nagar branch, where it will contribute to various temple initiatives and charitable causes. The temple's ability to garner such substantial donations in a relatively short period underscores the deep-rooted faith and devotion of its followers. It also highlights the potential for religious institutions to play a significant role in community development and welfare.
