In a significant development in the war against illegal drugs, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has landed a substantial blow to drug trafficking networks with a recent operation in Pangasinan. This successful mission, conducted on October 2nd, resulted in the seizure of a staggering 850 million pesos worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as 'shabu'. The drugs, weighing approximately 125 kilograms, were cleverly concealed inside plastic tea bags, a tactic often employed by international syndicates to smuggle contraband. The bust, which took place along the Olongapo-Bugallon Road, was a well-coordinated effort led by PDEA, with crucial support from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Drug Enforcement Group, the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA), and the Armed Forces of Philippines (AFP) Counterintelligence Group. Two high-profile suspects, alias Monkey, a 40-year-old Chinese national, and alias Gardo, aged 54, from Zamboanga City, were apprehended. The seized items included the substantial quantity of drugs, a vehicle, a mobile phone, and marked money used in the operation. The suspects now face serious charges under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, which could result in life imprisonment and hefty fines.

PDEA Director General Isagani Nerez praised the operation, emphasizing the critical role of coordinated intelligence in safeguarding communities. He noted that the success was a direct result of persistent tracking and information gathering from previous operations, demonstrating the effectiveness of a strategic, intelligence-led approach.
