Anantnag's War on Drugs: 345 kg of Narcotics Destroyed

In a significant move in the battle against drug trafficking, the Anantnag Police destroyed a staggering 345.102 kilograms of seized narcotics and psychotropic substances. This operation, conducted on Saturday at the Industrial Growth Centre in Lassipora, Pulwama district, sends a powerful message about the authorities' commitment to eradicating the drug menace.

The disposal, adhering to the legal procedures outlined in the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPSA), was a culmination of an ongoing drive to dismantle drug networks. The narcotics destroyed were linked to 49 FIRs registered under the NDPS Act in the Anantnag district, indicating a comprehensive effort to tackle the issue. The operation included the elimination of various banned substances, such as poppy straw, ganja, charas, fukki, cannabis powder, bung boosa, brown sugar, and codeine phosphate and whisky syrup.

A senior police officer emphasized the transparency and legality of the process, stating that the presence of the Drug Disposal Committee ensured compliance with established norms. This large-scale destruction of contraband is a testament to the Anantnag Police's unwavering dedication to ridding society of the drug scourge. The Jammu and Kashmir Police have been actively organizing similar disposal drives as part of their intensified anti-narcotics campaign, aiming to strengthen preventive measures and educate the public about the dangers of drug abuse.

The police's appeal for public cooperation in identifying drug peddlers and disrupting supply chains underscores the importance of community involvement in this ongoing war on drugs. With such initiatives, the authorities aim to create a drug-free district, fostering a safer and healthier environment for the residents of Anantnag and the surrounding areas.
