The state of Andhra Pradesh is witnessing a decisive battle against unauthorized construction and illegal layouts, with Urban Development Minister P Narayana issuing a stern warning. In a recent review meeting at the Gudur municipal office, the minister revealed a startling statistic: nearly 83% of constructions in Kavali town deviate from approved plans. This alarming figure underscores the extent of the challenge the state government faces in its quest for urban development and regulation.
Narayana emphasized that the government has extended an olive branch to violators through the Layout Regularization Scheme and the Building Regularization Scheme. However, this leniency will not be indefinite. The minister's tone was resolute as he declared that any future illegal layouts or unauthorized constructions would face inevitable demolition. This zero-tolerance policy aims to deter further violations and bring order to the state's urban landscape.
The meeting, attended by municipal officials from several towns, including Sullurupeta, Naidupeta, Venkatagiri, and Gudur, addressed various civic issues. Narayana, also in charge of the Municipal Administration Department, discussed essential amenities such as roads, drainage, drinking water, and streetlights. He assured the allocation of necessary funds for these projects, emphasizing the government's commitment to improving civic infrastructure.
The minister also took the opportunity to criticize the previous YSRC government, blaming its negligence for derailing the AMRUT scheme and causing a significant financial loss of Rs 8,500 crore to the state. With Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's intervention, the scheme is being revived, promising to alleviate drinking water and drainage problems across Andhra Pradesh within two years. The meeting concluded with substantial fund allocations under the AMRUT program for various municipalities, marking a significant step towards addressing critical civic issues.
