The Thai troops' swift action resulted in the death of one suspect and the recovery of the illicit cargo. The Pha Muang Task Force, a specialized unit within the Royal Thai Army, has been at the forefront of these operations, patrolling over 933 kilometres of challenging terrain. Their efforts have significantly disrupted trafficking networks, particularly in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, where the task force has conducted over 300 operations, leading to numerous arrests and the seizure of various narcotics.

In the first eight months of the year, authorities confiscated a massive haul of drugs, including over 57 million meth pills and substantial quantities of heroin and crystal meth. Chiang Mai, a strategic transit point, has also witnessed significant seizures, with approximately 55 million meth pills and large amounts of crystal meth and opium taken off the streets.
