In a significant push for modern agricultural practices, Nellore's District Collector Himanshu Shukla has set the wheels in motion for a farming revolution. With a staggering 70% of the population relying on cultivation, the district is poised for a transformative journey towards increased profitability and efficiency.
Collector Shukla, addressing a dedicated workshop on farm mechanisation, emphasised the need for a paradigm shift in farming techniques. He urged farmers to embrace mechanisation, a strategy that promises substantial profits with minimal investments. This approach, he believes, will alleviate the labour burden and optimise water management, two critical challenges faced by the agricultural community.
The workshop, organised by the agriculture department at Tikkana Pranganam in the Collectorate, served as a platform to educate and inspire. Shukla instructed the department to devise a long-term strategy, encouraging them to think comprehensively about the future of farming in the district. The government's support in the form of subsidies for 60 types of farm mechanisation instruments is a significant incentive. To ensure this message reaches every farmer, the officials were directed to conduct awareness camps at the grassroots level.
The Collector's vision extends to recognising and promoting successful models. He suggested identifying 'Champion Farmers' in each village, who have achieved profitability with low investments and efficient water management. This initiative could inspire others to follow suit. Furthermore, Shukla appealed to bankers to facilitate loans for farmers, enabling them to access mechanisation tools and technologies, thereby fostering a more prosperous and sustainable agricultural ecosystem in Nellore.
With the district's agricultural stakeholders in attendance, this workshop marks a significant step towards a mechanised and prosperous farming future.
